How to connect a Tally source to Portant

Portant simplifies your workflow by automatically generating documents directly from Tally forms whenever a response is submitted. This seamless process is fully automated, making document generation quick and easy.

In this article you will learn how to:

  1. Create a workflow using Tally as a source

  2. Connect Portant to Tally

  3. Edit a Tally source workflow

Create a workflow using Tally as a source

Click the "+ Add Workflow" button.

Select Tally as your source.

Enter a title for your workflow, choose a color and an icon, then click "Create".

Connect Portant to Tally

After you have created your workflow, you will need to connect your Tally form to your Portant workflow. To do so, open your source block.

Follow the instructions as shown below: copy the webhook link from your source block.

Go to Tally and find Integrations > Webhooks tab. Click "Connect" from the Webhooks option.

Paste the webhook link you copied from your Portant workflow and click "Connect."

You will see the webhook added to your Tally in the "My connections" section. To test the integration, click the clock icon to send a test event.

Click "Send Test Event"

You will see that an event has been delivered, confirming that Portant and your Tally form are correctly linked.

You will also see in the "Source tab" in Portant that the event has been received correctly.

Consequently, your Tally source block in the workflow will now show a green tick, meaning that everything has been set up correctly.

Edit a Tally source workflow

Now you are ready to select a template for your workflow. To do so, simply click "Add Template".

Choose the source you want to use, which can be either a Google Docs or a Google Slides file. In this example, we are picking Google Docs.

Choose the location your template is saved in on your Google Drive, or create a new Google Docs file.

In this case, we are selecting a template from our drive that is already prepared for the workflow. Simply select the template file and then click "Select".

Now your workflow will look like this: one source block and a template block.

The next step is to open the template block and customize your template. On the right-hand side of your screen, you will see a source table where you can copy all the tags from your Tally form and place them into your template document as shown below. In Portant App, we have full integration with Google Workspace, which means you can create and edit your Google documents directly within the app with all the formatting tools at your disposal.

Once your template is ready, you can choose to save your outputs as PDF files by turning on the "Create PDF copy" option.

Additionally, if you don't want to save the outputs as Google Docs, you can toggle on the option: "Remove Google Docs output files".

You are all set!

Keep in mind that the auto-create mode, which will already be activated by default when you create your Tally workflow, needs to stay turned on so every time you have a new response in your Tally form, Portant will run the workflow automatically.

You can also add more stages to your workflow, such as sending those documents by email and even requesting signatures! To learn more about how to request signatures with the Portant App, please refer to this article.
