Error messages

Find the message you see below, then follow the fix. Most errors come from an expired connection or from missing access to a file or folder, not from the workflow itself.

If the message is not on this page, copy a support code for the item and contact us.

Something went wrong

You may also see An unknown error occurred. These are general messages. They do not name the cause, so check the usual causes in this order:

  1. Check status.portant.co. If many items fail at once, see Is Portant down?
  2. Reconnect your Google account, or Microsoft if your templates are in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  3. If the workflow runs from HubSpot, reconnect HubSpot.
  4. Rerun one item from the Outputs page.

If the item still fails, send us its support code.

Error processing your workflow

The workflow started but one of its steps failed. Open the Outputs page and find the item with the yellow status icon. Some errors show a reason on the item; if yours shows none, send us its support code and we can read the cause. If you can see which step failed:

  • If the document step failed, check that the template still exists and that you can open it.
  • If the email step failed, see Workflow email.
  • If the step failed after a template or source change, rerun one item to confirm the fix.

A step stays grey

A grey step has not run yet. If it stays grey for a long time, the item is waiting on an earlier step or on a connection. See Documents stuck on Pending or Signature Requested. If many items in different workflows stay grey at the same time, see Is Portant down?

Insufficient permissions for the specified parent

Portant cannot save the output in the output folder. The account that runs the workflow needs Editor access to the output folder, and at least Viewer access to the template.

  1. Open the output folder in Google Drive and check who it is shared with.
  2. Share it with the Google account that is connected to Portant, as Editor. For a shared drive, add that account as a member who can edit.
  3. Rerun one item.

If you changed the output folder recently, check the folder that the workflow uses now on the Outputs page.

Insufficient authentication scopes

This section also covers other Google authorization errors. Portant does not have all the Google Drive permissions it needs, so it cannot create the output folder or file. This happens when a permission was not granted during sign-in, or when the connection expired. Reconnect your Google account and grant every permission that Google asks for. Then rerun one item.

Image not accessible

Portant could not download an image that an image tag points to. The image must be at a public URL that opens without a sign-in. A Google Drive link works only when the file is shared with Anyone with the link. A HubSpot file property gives a file ID, not an image URL, so use a property that holds the URL.
